Plant Engineer

As a leader in the horticultural industry, Nursery Supplies, Inc. is seeking a strong, pro-active individual to be a plant engineer in our Florida facility.  The candidate needs to have a working knowledge of the plastic manufacturing processes, preferably in the thermoforming process.  Additional skills in blow molding, vacuum forming and offset printing a plus.  This job involves developing and implementing operational plans, ensuring machinery and processes meet compliant and safety regulations, and working with the maintenance team to create, maintain and drive a TPM culture along with the related activities between operators, technicians, engineers, and the respective leadership teams.  This job requires a well-organized, self-motivated individual with great problem-solving and trouble-shooting skills and great mechanical skills who enjoys working as part of a team.  The candidate must have a basic working knowledge of CAD software, SolidWorks a plus. 

Duties will include but not limited to the following:

  1. Support, develop, drive and improve activities for 5S, teamwork, CIP process, and TPM systems. The position will require the training, coaching and mentoring of associates in TPM pillars, which will include autonomous maintenance, process & machine improvement, preventative maintenance, process quality management and early management of new equipment.
  2. Monitor and maintain plant equipment and machinery to ensure that it’s running to specifications and is being serviced on a regular basis.  COGZ software is used for maintenance planning and a knowledge of this software is desired.  Track maintenance issues and advises on action needed to ensure production is not impeded.
  3. Train and assist plant personnel in carrying out safety procedures so that everyone on the team is compliant with the OSHA and NSI standards. This will also involve administrative tasks that coincide with this training, such as completing reports, updating records and communicating status up and down the organization. 
  4. Oversee plant quality control for incoming and out-going product.  Work with production team on quality standards for out-going product, providing visible and attainable goals.  Set standards of quality and methods to test quality for incoming products to maximize production goals.
  5. Develop, review and implement plant project plans (construction, machine installation and maintenance) to ensure that timelines and blueprints are accurate and that cost estimates remain within budget restraints. Set milestones within project timeline to anticipate delays or required revisions and provide guidance for any necessary changes.
  6. Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on applicable machinery, equipment and facility.

Minimum Education Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or related field of study

 

Minimum Experience Required

  • 5+ years experience in an industrial engineering capacity within manufacturing
  • 2+ years experience in a senior engineering or maintenance leadership capacity

 

Skills Required

  • Skilled in the manufacturing, industrial and plant engineering principles
  • Knowledge of standard engineering concepts, practices, and procedures
  • Experienced in developing clear and detailed work instructions\
  • Demonstrated experience in identifying areas of improvement and managing the associated change process
  • Strong knowledge facilities machines and equipment
  • Excellent organizational and leadership abilities
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

 

Preferred Education, Experience or Skills

  • Master’s Degree in engineering a plus
  • Industry related certifications a plus (i.e. PMP)
  • Knowledge of press or printing operations preferred
